As a rule, I'm not a fan of teen farce comedies. By and large, they're deeply silly and a waste of time. That said, I did rent American Pie on video a couple years ago, and found, among the gross-out humor and de rigueur "we gotta get laid" sub-plots, a fair amount of clever dialogue and genuine, albeit simple, heart in the portrayal of at least a few of the characters. So I didn't have to have my arm twisted too hard to watch its sequel when it was released to video.
American Pie II is still teen comedy, still taking advantage of gross-out humor and the "gotta get laid" motif, but still with enough clever dialogue (well, for broadly teenage values of clever, at least) and funny moments to be amusingly watchable. The gang from the first movie has just finished their first year at college, and they decide to rent a beachside house and get jobs as house painters to pass the summer vacation. Hijinx ensue, natch. Great cinema? No. Good cinema? Depends on one's tolerance for what it has to offer, I suppose. For lolling around the couch with pizza and a bunch of friends, it's a fun movie. And that's all I'm gonna say about that.
